A MMA Maniac Event: UFC 259

With the onset of a new year, the UFC has taken a sizzling start. There have been some electrifying matches to watch and there is a lot of ecstatic action yet to come!

The main event in the mixed martial art series was organized by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on 6th March 2021 in Nevada, Las Vegas, USA. The event, popularly known as UFC, has a huge hype in the electronic and online media. The battle that brought the UFC 259 into the limelight in March, was between Jan Blachowicz, former light heavyweight champion, and Israel Adesanya, current UFC middleweight champion. The buzzword, UFC 259: Adesanya vs Blachowicz kept on resonating everywhere on social media. If Adesanya had won the championship, he would have become the fourth man to become a champion in two divisions at a time and fifth fighter overall.

As the fight went on, Adesanya endeavored to take control over the mammoth champion from the outside and aimed carefully from a distance, however, Blachowicz proved to be too sly and used all his experience to overpower the challenger and ground him. Israel Adesanya made a botched attempt and lost the competition and his dream to become a two-weight world champion also could not be realized.

In the press conference after the fight, Adesanya was adamant he had yet got a division and he would dominate finally. He said, “Right now, I’ve got a division I’ve got to dominate. I know what they’re thinking, ‘Oh, that’s it, you’ve just got to take him down, and then you’ve got him.’ All right, cool, bet, but I’ll remind them again why I’m the king of 185.”

The dual didn’t bring any serious injuries to either of the contestants, however, physicians are apprehensive that Adesanya might need a thorough checkup by a doctor before he is back in the ring next time. He will have to go through an X-ray of his left foot and ankle. If he can’t get the clearance, he might remain away from fighting for 6 months. Even if his injury is not serious, Adesanya would still need 45 days to let his body recover.

Other UFC bouts in the MMA that made the headlines have been Amanda Nunes vs Megan Anderson in UFC 259. Nunes successfully defended her women featherweight title.

Whereas McGregor vs Poirier in January was a popular fight in UFC 251 and Poirier clinched a brilliant victory over the Irish contender in this fight.

A memorable fight from UFC 258 in February was Kamaru Usman vs Gilbert Burns. Usman defended his title in an overwhelming style.
